{"id":2179,"date":"2017-06-26T16:33:04","date_gmt":"2017-06-26T22:33:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chaosinabox.com\/?p=2179"},"modified":"2017-06-26T16:34:00","modified_gmt":"2017-06-26T22:34:00","slug":"movie-review-cars-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chaosinabox.com\/index.php\/2017\/06\/26\/movie-review-cars-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Movie Review &#8211; Cars 3"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Cars 3<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2180\" src=\"https:\/\/chaosinabox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/cars3-thumb-203x300.jpg\" alt=\"Cars 3 Poster\" width=\"203\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/chaosinabox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/cars3-thumb-203x300.jpg 203w, https:\/\/chaosinabox.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/cars3-thumb.jpg 272w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 203px) 100vw, 203px\" \/><\/h1>\n<p>Directed by Brian Fee<\/p>\n<p>Starring the voices of Owen Wilson, Cristela Alonzo, Chris Cooper, Armie Hammer, Bonnie Hunt, Larry the Cable Guy, Nathan Fillion, Kerry Washington, and Lea DeLaria.<\/p>\n<h5>Backstory<\/h5>\n<p>I love Pixar, but <em>Cars <\/em>is their one franchise that always felt kind of phoned in.\u00a0 The first one was good, but not great.\u00a0 The second one was the first Pixar film where I saw the TV spots and thought, &#8220;Pass.&#8221;\u00a0 I did buy it on Blu-Ray and watch it because I can&#8217;t have a gap in my Pixar library, and&#8230;yeah.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not good.\u00a0 But when I started seeing the first trailer for <em>Cars 3<\/em> which featured our hero Lightening McQueen being totaled in a race I thought, &#8220;OK.\u00a0 You have my interest again.&#8221;\u00a0 And here we are.<\/p>\n<h5>Plot<\/h5>\n<p>Lightening McQueen has been king of the racing circuit for a decade now.\u00a0 But the next generation of racers is nipping at his heels, and Lightening sees his old compatriots retiring one by one.\u00a0 In the final race of the season, Lightening tries a risky move to overtake a cocky upstart named Jackson Storm, and it leads to the wreck we saw in the trailer.\u00a0 After an off-season of sulking, Lightening decides that he&#8217;ll retire when he wants to, and his sponsor sets him up in a state-of-the-art training facility with one of the toughest trainers in the game, Cruz Ramirez.\u00a0 But, Lightening soon grows frustrated with his slow progress\u00a0 under Cruz&#8217;s new, high-tech training methods, and goes for a more old-school training regime.\u00a0 So, Lightening and Cruz hit the road to continue Lightening&#8217;s training, with the first race of the season at the end of the road.\u00a0 Will Lightening get his mojo back and reclaim the top spot from Jackson Storm?\u00a0 Will Cruz ever achieve her dreams of becoming a racer?<\/p>\n<h5>What I Liked<\/h5>\n<p>Dude, I swear, this is Pixar&#8217;s most photo-realistic film to date.\u00a0 The animation is drop-dead gorgeous.\u00a0 It looks like they used real photographs in some places.\u00a0 The voice acting is also good, with Cristela Alonzo being pitch-perfect as Cruz, and Nathan Fillion using his charm for evil purposes as Sterling, Lightening&#8217;s new sponsor.\u00a0 And if you hate Larry the Cable Guy&#8217;s Mater the Tow Truck, you&#8217;ll be pleased to know he&#8217;s once again reduced to his comedic sidekick role.\u00a0 In fact, his role is reduced so much, it&#8217;s pretty much a glorified cameo.\u00a0 And you know what?\u00a0 Turns out Mater&#8217;s OK in <em>very <\/em>small doses.<\/p>\n<h5>What I Didn&#8217;t Like<\/h5>\n<p>Yeah&#8230;the plot is formulaic and cliched as hell.\u00a0 While I did see one of the twists coming from miles away, it was still a pretty good twist.<\/p>\n<h5>Final Verdict<\/h5>\n<p><em>Cars 3<\/em> finally has some of that trademark Pixar heart that the other films were lacking.\u00a0 Not much, but they put in the effort.\u00a0 Like the first film, I put it down as good, but not great.<\/p>\n<h1>3 Nibs<\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cars 3 Directed by Brian Fee Starring the voices of Owen Wilson, Cristela Alonzo, Chris Cooper, Armie Hammer, Bonnie Hunt, Larry the Cable Guy, Nathan Fillion, Kerry Washington, and Lea DeLaria.
