My Latest Letter of Resignation

Chaos in Print

AUTHOR’S NOTE: In the grand tradition of quitting jobs I’m not too fond of, I’d like to present my latest letter of resignation. That, and I’m too lazy to write anything original this week. This is my resignation from the Nugget, NAIT’s newspaper. Why I’m quitting is in the letter.

To [da boss],

RE: The resignation of Mark Cappis

There comes a time in a young man’s life when he must spread his wings and fly. Well, that time for me was actually about 5 years ago and I had my wings shot off and I crashed at NAIT. But, I’ve healed up quite nicely and it’s déjà vu all over again. It’s time for me to leave the nest – both literally and figuratively in this case – and fly once more! And that means I have to leave the Nugget.

Don’t worry, I’m not leaving because I’m mad or anything. I’m leaving because of pure practicality. The fourth semester for a Radio & Television – Radio student is his/her practicum. My fourth semester is coming up, and I won’t be able to effectively cover the news for NAIT students when I’m working 8 hours a day at a radio station. My final day will be the end of the semester, or when Dave Fester gets tired of having me hang around. Whichever comes first.

Writing for the Nugget has been a real blast and it helped me re-live my glory days of my first time through university. But, as someone wrote about me in the Grapevines last semester, “Have your midlife crisis on your own time.” Truer words were never spoken. And now, it is my time.

My only regret is that I’m leaving before I got to reveal [Internet edit] as my secret crush.

Peace and long life,

Mark Cappis, B.Sc.
